Course Description

Learn the basics of the Apple iPhone and tips for maximizing its use. This class covers: basic iPhone settings, making Bluetooth and WI-FI connections, setting up Siri voice commands, iCloud storage, making three-way phone calls, Texting, surfing the Internet, downloading Apps, creating and sharing Contact information, saving and editing Photos, using Maps, exploring Digital Books, and maintaining and protecting your iPhone.

What you need for the class:

  • A fully activated iPhone; and
  • Your Apple ID and Password for adding Apps.

This is a three day in-person course consisting of:

One Tuesday &  two Thursdays: October 11, 13, and 20. 10:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. 

Fee $45 (Fee covers all three days of class).

About the Instructor:

Hortensia (Tencil) Coffee, a graduate of Winston-Salem State University, has 25 years of professional computer experience. She retired from the United States Environmental Protection Agency in 2014, where she served as the resource management lead and senior budget officer for the agency’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer. Hortensia has a passion for teaching basic computer and smart phone skills to ensure no one is left behind in this ever-changing digital world.

Cancellation must be received in writing at least one week before the start of classes. You will be issued a refund, less a $10 administrative fee. Please contact Student Services at stuserv@unc.edu.

Alternatively, participant substitutions are welcome. If you cannot attend an event, you can contact us with the name of the individual who will take your place.

In-Person Course

This course takes place in-person at the Friday Center for Continuing Education.
